Costa Maya Real Estate
Mahahual (also spelt Majahual), located approximately 360 km (225 miles) south of Cancun, was originally a small fishing village and has expanded rapidly as a major tourist destination in the past few years. This is largely due to the opening of a new cruise ship destination, Puerto Costa Maya, which is proving extremely popular for visitors. With a modern commercial area outside the port with restaurants, shops, bar and other amenities, this place is gaining a stellar place for visitors.
In the village, a promenade or malecon stretches from the lighthouse for a couple of kilometers where you can stroll along right next to the beach, shop or treat yourself to fresh seafood platters at one of the many restaurants, all with an incredible view of the turquoise Caribbean ocean. You'll meet the locals, many of who were originally fishermen, but are now working in tourism as snorkel and fishing guides.
After hurricane Dean hit Mahahual in August 2007 the government has injected a lot of funds in order to beautify it, mainly the malecon that was formerly a pot-holed dirt track. They are actively promoting Costa Maya real estate and hotels to be developed as a green, eco-friendly destination. This is supported by the fact that once you are out of the more developed areas of the cruise ship port area, named New Mahahual, and the village, real estate such as beach homes in Costa Maya are off the main electrical grid. They rely on eco-power such as solar panels and wind turbines with generators for back up. Along the coast you'll find a mixture of beautiful real estate including private homes, many owned by expatriates, with virgin white sandy beaches lined with palm trees and crystal clear waters inviting you to take a swim.
Many activities are available that suit all tastes: kayaking, deep-sea and fly-fishing, horseback riding, visiting the nearby Maya ruins of Kohunlich and Chacchoben, bird watching, swimming in the lagoon of 7 colours in Bacalar, to name just a few. Snorkelling and scuba diving are superb. The pristine reefs and unusual canyon formations, accompanied by an abundance of tropical fish, make it a diver's haven and a trip to the famous Chinchorro Banks 45 km offshore is a must.
With plans for the continued expansion of this area many people are taking the opportunity to invest in real estate now. It is the last undeveloped part of the Mexican Caribbean coast. We have properties available, all with clear titles, both in New Mahahual, the centre and beachfront. We are constantly increasing our real estate listings as well. For those who are looking for something off the beaten track, away from the more developed towns of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Costa Maya real estate is what you've been looking for. Follow your sense of adventure and visit Mahahual, where Paradise awaits!
Costa Maya real estate is generally divided into two main areas: the town of Majahual and the stretches of beachfront running north and south from that town. In Majahual you can find everything from comfortable little homes to luxury condos. Out of town, most people buy lots, with some resale homes for sale as well. One of the best parts is that real estate in Costa Maya for sale is very competitively priced! Whether you want a lot to build your dream home overlooking beach, or a luxury condo with a view of the Caribbean, the prices of Costa Maya real estate will surprise you pleasantly.
Life in Costa Maya
If your idea of paradise includes living on a quiet beachfront town, with only a few small towns around, in an atmosphere that is relaxing in the purest meaning of the word, you should consider investing in Costa Maya real estate.
While Costa Maya is growing as an important tourist destination, it definitely hasn't lost the charm of a small, off-the-beaten-track beachfront, or the rich and beautiful nature. In fact, many of the tourists who show up in Costa Maya by cruise fall in love with this place precisely because of the nature. Living in Costa Maya means you have access to all of this - diving, boating, fishing, kayaking, swimming, horseback riding, and visiting ancient pyramids - as a part of your day to day life. The hustle and bustle of cities and your life back home can be left far behind!
Consider relaxation in paradise the way it was meant to be; consider buying Costa Maya real estate.
